Carlos Fuente, Jr.

Meet Carlos Fuente Jr., President of Tabaclera A. Fuente y Cia. This good friend of mine (along with his father, Carlos Fuente, Sr.), is the name, vision and force behind Arturo Fuente cigars.

The Fuente name on cigars is very well established with a family effort that spans four generations. The Fuente's have produced premium handmade cigars since the early years of this century. They have become known as makers of some of the best cigars in the world. With over 1,200 employees in the Dominican Republic, they are also known for the large number of cigars they produce.

Some believe they produce more handmade cigars than any other company. Recently they have become best known for their accomplishment in growing and producing wrapper leaf in the Dominican Republic, something that has never been successfully done in the past. If you want to know just how successful they were with this project, light up an Fuente Fuente OpusX when you get the chance; you'll know what I'm talking about!

When you get the chance to visit with Carlos, you quickly sense the importance of family and excellence in their work as cigar manufacturers. You can hear in his voice and see on his face the deep passion and love this man has for the cigar and the cigar industry. Carlos is consumed with producing the best possible product that he can while doing everything in his power to keep it affordable.

It is obvious when you get to spend time with him that his first desire and goal as a cigar manufacturer is providing the aficionado with a product that brings them into that mystical world of relaxation and quiet. A world where one can get lost in the peacefulness of a cigar. He is further consumed with the need to maintain the value and excellence that his family traditions have taught him over the last four generations. One simply needs to enjoy one of his cigars to figure this out.

For me though, the thing I enjoy most about Carlos is his personality and hospitality as a person. He loves talking to cigar lovers, no matter where he is. He loves to visit about his passion for cigars and listen to those who likewise share that passion in their own lives. I have been blessed by the time I have spent with Carlos these last few years, but there is one memory that I will cherish more than the others.

I was privileged enough several years ago to spend an evening with Carlos after a Big Smoke. I met him at the Grand Havana Room in Los Angeles. I had the greatest time just sitting there with him, smoking and talking cigars. He is truly a perfect gentleman in the cigar industry. If you ever get the chance to meet him or visit with him, go for it. You'll meet one of the finest and most humble men in the cigar world. I consider myself privileged to call him a friend. You will too.
